Description
Summary of findings for Mainstreaming Snuby. H McIntyre 14.8.23Summary report on mainstreaming skin-to-skin undergarment in the term neonate.
Dr. Helen McIntyre
This study commenced prior to the Covid -19 pandemic when it was stopped and subsequently restarted but proved difficult to maintain. The intention was to understand maternity personnel and women’s understanding of skin to skin between mother and baby before and after the use of the Snuby a bespoke undergarment. There was therefore a pre-questionnaire and post-questionnaire planned from both staff and women.
This was a multi sited study across England. There was one tertiary referral unit which was not UNICEF BFI accredited and three secondary referral units. One was recently BFI accredited and the other two had long standing BFI maternity services accreditation.
Recommendations:
Staff training to enable all to be conversant with the benefits of encouraging skin-to -skin care.
Enable access to the Snuby for supporting skin-to-skin care.
Address pattern and manufacturing comments for the next iteration.
Subsequent trialling in theatre, the neonatal unit and on readmission to the hospital from home.
