    Description

The Reimagining and Reclaiming Adult and Further Education Congress took place at Birmingham City University at the end of June before the summer break. It brought together academics, researchers, practitioners and students from higher, adult and further education settings to look at some of the burning issues in the field, to discuss existing research and to plan more.
The Congress was aimed at encouraging teachers / practitioners from Adult and Further Education colleges to join others in talking about the issues that are having an impact on their work, with a view to taking part in practitioner research. So, one purpose was to demystify the research process: through discussion and the sharing of experience to provide an overview of the issue and from there, with the help of experienced researchers, to collaborate in active research into the issue.

To that end, the Congress was organised around five thematic strands that resonate with some of the current and perennial issues: i) Intensification of work, the Pastoral Needs Crisis & Mental Health, ii) Environment and sustainability in AFE, iii) Policy and a socially just curriculum, iv) Quality, teaching and learning and ITE and v) Leadership and Governance in Adult and Further Education.
