What It Takes to Survive a Disaster

Press/Media

Description

Radio interview about the psychological phenomenon of Thrd Person Syndrome

Subject

The interview was about "Third man syndrome / Third man factor" occurring in those working in extreme environments and circumstances who survived difficult circumstances, often reporting sensing an unseen companion or figure guiding or helping them, similar to that experienced by Ernest Shackleton in his Antarctic expedition. The interview covered stress, fatigue, isolation, and how cognitive overload in harsh work environments can contribute to these experiences, as well as how psychology can make sense of this, when thinking about the brain as a malfunctioning operating system.
