    Description of impact

    Through the Big Data Corridor, Data Science Collaboration, and DIATOMIC projects, Birmingham City University has significantly enhanced regional innovation capacity. This research, led by Professor Abdel-Rahman Tawil and the Intelligent Software Systems Lab, improved Birmingham City Council’s data-driven decision-making, created the Birmingham City Observatory, supported over 125 SMEs, initiated new enterprises, and introduced innovative products. The work positioned Birmingham as a leading UK hub for digital innovation, particularly in cleantech, health tech, and med tech, while also establishing the UK’s first Inclusive Innovation Hub.
