Dauvit's research for some years has been around Craft Activism in the metal and jewellery world, working especially with young, marginalised people, encouraging them to explore craft and making as a means of expressing their feelings and as alternative routes to those normally available to them.
His projects often focus on the impacts of violence on individuals and communities.
This runs alongside his own artistic practice which fuses traditional fine-jewellery skills with the contemporary world of found-object and narrative jewellery.
Dauvit teaches traditional fine-jewellery techniques in a workshop environment. He is interested in the interface where new technology meets traditional hand-production, especially the way in which traditional techniques can give value to objects made by new technologies.
As a Marxist, Dauvit seeks to seize the means of production and use them for the common good. He despises the destruction wrought by capitalism on humans, communities and the planet.
