Dean Hughes (b.1974 Manchester, UK) studied at Chelsea College of Art and Design, London. Solo exhibitions have included Laure Genillard Gallery, Gian Carla Zanutti Gallery, Milan, Jack Hanley Gallery, San Francisco, Dick Smith Gallery, London and group exhibitions have included British Art Show 5, Big Minis at CAPC Bordeaux; Lonely at the Top, MUHKA Antwerp, and Newspeak: British Art now, Saatchi Gallery.
His writing has been published in the Journals Drawing Research Theory and Pracice, Art and Design Communication in Higher Education, and recently he has published two essays on the work of British Artist Roger Ackling - one concerning stillness as a drawing method (Intellect Journals, 2024) and one addressing Acklings legacy as an art educator (Norwich Castle, 2024) Current research concerns are the material qualities of transience in contemporary art and the physical aspects of the moment of making
He welcomes PhD proposals and discussions concerning Drawing, legacies of the dematerialisation of the art object, Contemporart art and philosophy
