Louise teaches primary English on the BA and PGCE Primary Education with QTS courses. In her research, Dr Louise Wheatcroft, a senior lecturer in ITE at Birmingham City University, draws upon her experiences as a primary teacher and teacher educator to further research literacy, digital literacies and teacher education. Her PhD explored the digital literacy projects and practices of student teachers when navigating complex spaces in primary literacy classrooms. Louise has since worked as a co-investigator on a number of international education research projects exploring a range of educational topics: transitioning to HE for non-traditional students; the impact of Covid on schools, communities and pupils; teacher education in Vietnam and learning outcomes for children from refugee, asylum seeker and newly arrived migration contexts.
Louise has worked alongside a group of literacy researchers as members of the United Kingdom Literacy Association (UKLA) to write a collection of case studies for Digital Literacies in Education: Teaching, Learning and Assessment in 21st Century Classrooms.
