    Abstract

Daniel Moult and Martin Schmeding give richly detailed presentations about the nature, history and performance practice of a broad selection of Bach’s organ works, and then perform the pieces themselves on four individual but complementary central German organs – two Silbermanns in Rötha, the big Trost in Waltershausen and the Hildebrandt in Sangerhausen. The centrepiece of the DVD-CD boxset is a 3 1/2 hour seven-part documentary in which the two organists explore how to bring these pieces to life, with reference to score, instrument and coming to terms with tradition. The boxset also includes almost 2 1/2 hours of music performed on film and on CD, recorded to the highest quality in stereo and surround. Further film extras include demonstrations of the four organs.
