Abstract
This chapter examines the situation of folk healers in a rapidly diversifying complementary therapy market place. These are lay healers who are traditionally community-based often and who are less likely to charge for their services. The chapter outlines processes of commercialisation that are 'pushing out' traditional indigenous healers in favour of imported healing forms, such as Reiki or more organised spiritual-based forms of healing (such as that offered by the SNU).
