We also acknowledge the late Professor Fergus Lowe, our colleague, mentor and friend, for his invaluable support during the preparation for this research. This was a Knowledge Economy Skills Scholarships (KESS) supported research project, in collaboration with Bangor University. These funding bodies had no role in the design of the study, data collection or analysis, interpretation of data or in writing the manuscript. M. M. O. coordinated the study, processed and analysed data and drafted the manuscript. J. S. C. and L. M. W. contributed to data collection and procedure development. P. J. H. contributed to editing. S. V. advised on statistical analysis and contributed to results. M. E. designed the study, obtained funding, supervised all aspects of the research and co-wrote the final manuscript. All authors have read and approved the final manuscript. The authors declare that they have no competing interests. This is not an independent evaluation; the Food Dudes programme is owned by Bangor University. This study was conducted according to the guidelines laid down in the Declaration of Helsinki and all procedures involving research study participants were approved by the Ethics and Governance Committee at the School of Psychology, Bangor University (approval number: 2014000089). The intervention was commissioned for implementation in several schools in Leeds. Informed consent for data collection was obtained from head teachers and all parents/guardians of children who took part via opt-out procedures, in writing. Data files can be obtained by request from the authors.
