Abstract

Clark [ Clarke ], Jeremiah (ii) ( b Worcester , c 1743; d Bromsgrove , May 11, 1809 ). English composer , organist , and violinist. He was a chorister at Worcester Cathedral from at least 1755 when his name first appears in the cathedral accounts. His father, Charles Clark, was a lay clerk there too and a promoter of concerts in the town and county during the 1750s. As a young man, Jeremiah gave concerts for his own benefit from 1760. The list of subscribers to his Eight Songs with Instrumental Parts ( 1763 ) shows that he had contact with
