    Abstract

This chapter is based upon recent and historical evidence that highlights the significant health inequalities experienced by individuals with a learning disability. Three health conditions in particular are discussed: constipation, gastro-oesophageal reflux disease (GORD) and sepsis. Hirst, King and Moloney emphasise that collaboration is key to improving healthcare for individuals with a learning disability, discuss the value of hospital passports and the importance of a positive attitude to the person, seeing them as an individual and not as a condition.
