Abstract
The transition to a net-zero emissions economy is critical for mitigating climate change and achieving sustainable development goals. However, the pathway is fraught with complex challenges, particularly at the enterprise level, where economic pressures and technological limitations coexist. This study addresses the research gap concerning the enablers and barriers influencing firms' adoption of net-zero strategies by conducting a systematic literature review of 44 relevant studies. Utilising PRISMA guidelines and the Tranfield framework, the review synthesizes key themes, including policy and regulatory challenges, financial constraints, technological and infrastructure barriers, organizational dynamics, and market limitations. The findings reveal 191 barriers and 101 enablers, highlighting the pivotal role of strategic policy frameworks, financial incentives, technological innovation, and stakeholder collaboration in overcoming implementation obstacles. These insights provide strategic direction for policymakers, business leaders, and researchers to design adaptive policies, foster collaborative ecosystems, and develop sustainable business models, ultimately supporting the transition to a net-zero emissions economy. This review contributes to the existing body of knowledge by offering a nuanced understanding of enterprise-level challenges and opportunities, paving the way for more informed practices and future research.
