Fatigue and Fatigue Management

Research output: Chapter in Book/Report/Conference proceedingChapterpeer-review

Abstract

As well as describing and exploring factors concerning the most typical form of fatigue, associated causes (long working hours and/or shift-working), the chapter will also focus on how to measure and identify fatigue among workforces, as well as possible interventions The chapter also addresses other forms of fatigue that may manifest in modern workplaces, such as Commuter fatigue, Zoom fatigue and Compassion fatigue. Many people experience acute mental and physical fatigue at some point in their lives, and there is a general appreciation of the sensation of fatigue among most people, yet a reluctance to challenge it. There are no biological markers or objective tests to confirm fatigue, and a reliance on subjective reports and sensations is still required. This chapter addresses fatigue and tiredness in workforces, as both a psychological and physical condition.
