Abstract
Attention to songwriting as a field of study has increased since 2019 following the creation of the Songwriting Studies Research Network, which unites scholars, industry workers and practitioners in a forum for the exchange of ideas about songwriting. Drawing on what Stahlke Wall (2016) has called ‘moderate autoethnography’, and with reference to wider critical frameworks from popular music studies and media and cultural studies, this chapter explores the role that podcasting has played in the emerging interdisciplinary field of Songwriting Studies. Drawing on the author's experiences as a co-creator of the Sodajerker podcast, the research reflects on the challenges and limitations of making a popular podcast for a general audience while experimenting with podcasting’s potential as a research methodology.
