Abstract

The global popularity of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ) surged after it gained mainstream media attention when Mel Gibson demonstrated a BJJ move in Lethal Weapon 1 and its dominance was showcased in early UFC events where different martial arts styles competed to find the most effective technique. Shehryar opened Mikado Jiu Jitsu in Lahore, Pakistan to fulfil his lifelong ambition of running a martial arts academy after earning his Blackbelt in 2024. Shehryar encountered cost obstacles along with competitive pressure and cultural barriers when starting his gym. Shehryar has successfully navigated past these challenges by reaching the ‘break-even' point. Shehryar demonstrates how BJJ positively impacts general health, well-being and community bonds while presenting examples of its empowering effects among Pakistan's vulnerable populations. The case study encourages readers to develop and propose a strategy that will help Mikado Jiu Jitsu advance to its next phase for business sustainability and growth.
