Abstract
"I fear (4) my life" is a string quartet written for and performed by the interntionally renowned Bozzini Quartet.
The piece explores the duality of the modern LGBTQ+ experience, specifically channeling the dual nature of Pride events, blending a vibrant, celebratory party atmosphere with urgent political activism.
The piece is directly inspired by statistics tracking hate crimes motivated by sexual orientation in both Canada and the United Kingdom. It captures the tension between queer celebration, community solidarity and the persistent undercurrent of vulnerability and fear that many individuals still face. Rather than treating Pride as just a festival, the music acts as a reminder of its roots as a protest born out of necessity and survival.
