On The Other Earth

Entering the Void (Abstract)
Developing the world's first 360 3D post-cinematic choreographic installation,
breaks the 4th wall through a radical new approach to harnessing physical and virtual symbiosis by pushing the boundaries of current immersive technologies in ways not experienced before. The methodology and execution refracts, evolves and re-imagines narratives within an equally daring contemporary artistic vision.
Prof. Ravi Deepres developed the cinematic design and concepts developed in collaboration with Director and choreographer Wayne McGregor and lighting artist Theresa Baumgartner to create On The Other Earth, which reimagines dance performance in a startlingly original new form of experience.   Combining dance, choreography, digital imaging, spatialized sound, and AI, The work redefines how we think about movement, the body, film and performance
Set within Prof.Jeffrey Shaw and Prof.Sarah Kenderdine’s radically immersive, panoramic, 360-degree stereoscopic, 12k LED, 26-million-pixel nVis screen, where 3D imagery is experienced within an enveloping, large-scale cylindrical architecture of eight metres wide and four metres tall.
On The Other Earth breaks the fourth wall, (the invisible barrier between audience and performance object), and dimension as visitors are invited into the heart of the dance, connecting in close contact with the hyperreal dancers of Company Wayne McGregor and the Hong Kong Ballet in a physicalised sound environment designed by Invisible Mountain. Never encountered in the same way twice, groups of up to 20 people will experience,  On The Other Earth’s visual and sonic landscapes unfolding before them in a series of thought-provoking otherworldly encounters and intimate interplay, upending our perceptions of performance and the future of entertainment.  
The key focus of the research and production phase of the work is to push the boundaries of what currently exists within performance driven immersive sensory visual environments, using associated technologies in ways not experienced before. To find and create a technological equivalent to human movement and experience. Audience members enter into a 3D 360 LED and sound environment. It challenges our relationships with virtual and physical space and the implications this may have in evolving cinematic futures and immersive performance states. Developing a series of environments which allow the viewer to literally become part of the experience rather than a viewer. This project represents a major step forward in post cinematic experience and virtual/physical performance, offering a unique perspective on bridging the relationships of virtual physical and interactive realms by pushing the boundaries of current new technologies. The second phase of the research will further develop the interactive and emotional resonance through innovative design strategies.
