Philotimo Scale (PS-G, PS-E, PS)

    Abstract

The Philotimo Scale (PS; Mantzios, 2019), designed in Greek (Philotimo Scale--Greek [PS-G]) and English (Philotimo Scale--English [PS-E]), was developed to measure what can be translated as a love for honor or a sense of honor. Initially developed in 2014 to align to a single factor theory, scale content was based on a definition derivative of a literature search and the enquiry of the core principles of this construct. The resulting 5-item PS was later evaluated across multiple studies (Mantzios, 2021) conducted with English- and Greek-speaking participants from the general population in Greece, as well as undergraduate students from the UK. Factor analysis, reliability, and validity results were reported for these items.
