Push-Pull (or ‘Neurodivergent adventures in writing and in-betweenness’)

Push-Pull explores the slippages, in-between and hybrid forms that emerge performatively from a four-week durational art-writing practice that considers the tensions and in-betweenness of navigating dual diagnoses. The work is situated across the intertwined practices of art, writing and research and the spaces in-between, where writing is considered as art practice and art practice is considered as writing and both are also approached as research exploring art and/as language. It explores the possibilities of a visual and other language, whereby not fitting in and transcending categories—both through diagnoses and amidst the entanglement of art/writing/research—becomes fertile ground for new forms of art/writing practice. The work comprises a large body of art/writing that traverses the visual, textual, and material registers of language at once methodology, dissemination, performance, artefact and the research itself. Embodied across, in-between and at the edges of different forms including text, photography, material artwork and moving image, it is presented via four parts called ‘Fragments’, ‘Without Stopping’, ‘Recalibration’ and ‘Lightness’, culminating in an experimental hybrid text called ‘Push-Pull’.
