Abstract
This chapter explores personal and professional motivations for becoming a SENCo and considers the challenges of the role. The chapter : explores SENCo identity and purpose; poses critical questions to enable readers to reflect on their own identity, well-being and development; investigates challenges, including to well-being and professional development; and ponders the effects these challenges might have on the SENCo role, identity and practice.
