Abstract
This special issue brings together articles which were first presented at a day conference on the theme of sociological perspectives on the mental health and wellbeing agenda in educational settings, hosted by the University of Wolverhampton Education Observatory and British Sociological Association Sociology of Mental Health Study Group, which was held online on 9th June 2021. It was organised as a reaction to the dearth of critical discussion about the mental health and wellbeing agenda in education in academic, policy and media circles, both in the UK and internationally. Through including contributors working across a range of educational settings, in different national contexts (the UK, Canada and Finland), and with diverse critical sociological perspectives, it was intended to address this lacuna and help shape this growing research field in education in a more critically informed manner.
