Abstract
This editorial introduces a special issue dedicated to the evolving concept of "youth work pracademia," which bridges the gap between academic theory and professional practice in youth work. Against a backdrop of socio-economic shifts, reduced public funding, and the marginalization of youth services, the issue explores how youth work education and practice are adapting. The editors argue for a renewed synthesis of theory and practice, emphasizing the role of the "pracademic"—a professional who operates simultaneously in academic and practice-based domains. The issue features a diverse range of contributions, including empirical studies, pedagogical reflections, and conceptual provocations. Topics include the integration of digital pedagogies such as HyFlex learning, values-based education, youth radio as a pedagogical tool, co-design in research, and the evolving nature of youth work careers. Collectively, these articles highlight the tensions, innovations, and opportunities within youth work education and practice, advocating for a more inclusive, creative, and critically engaged future for the profession. The editorial concludes by affirming the significance of the pracademic role in sustaining meaningful, responsive, and community-rooted youth work
