    Abstract

As the evolving landscape of HE is considered, there continue to be questions around the challenges, possibilities, and opportunities for teaching and learning, and community and practitioner engagement. The long-awaited Levelling Up White Paper further places Universities as “anchor institutions within their locality to develop the economic, social and cultural well-being needs of the surrounding community” (HM Government, 2022, p.197). Accordingly, institutions are staking increasing claims in working collaboratively with others. This refocusing, heightened by the pandemic, promises social mobility, economic advancement, and cultural development.  This chapter situates such patterns of change within a theoretical and conceptual context, bringing together insights from policy, practice and pedagogy. It examines the underlying assumptions of integrative and collaborative practice and considers whether meaningful change that contributes to the health and success of communities is possible within the current HE landscape. Finally, it assesses current and future implications for teaching, learning and lifelong development.
